Propecia (finasteride) is prescribed to treat male pattern baldness (vertex and the anterior mid-scalp area). Male patients are required to take this medicine for the rest of their lives (if used to treat male pattern baldness). Otherwise you will gradually lose all the hair during one year. It’s therefore important to make sure you will be able to handle long-term treatment with this medicine and will not get any dangerous side effects. An overdose of this medicine has not been reported to cause life-threatening symptoms. Side effects of Propecia include pain in the testicles, runny nose, skin rash, weakness, dizziness, tenderness in your breasts, impotence, lightheadedness.

Avoid getting pregnant during the whole period of treatment as the active ingredient of this medicine – finasteride – can be absorbed through skin affecting the health or an unborn baby. It usually takes Propecia from 2 to 3 month to work. Propecia is not 100% efficient and the success of your treatment largely depends on a wide array of individual factors. Patients taking this drug for a year without any success should consider an alternative as this medicine will probably not work in their case.
